IMPORTANT: You should not contact the Thalian Hall Box Office for our 2009-2010 season. Due to Thalian Hall renovations, the Thalian Association will be presenting four of our productions at the beautifully renovated and intimate Hannah Block 2nd Street Stage at the corner of 2nd and Orange Streets in downtown Wilmington, and two at Kenan Auditorium at UNCW.

Thalian Association Children's Theater
Suzanne Ralke-Smith, General Manager

Thalian Association Children’s Theater (TACT) offers theatrical training and production opportunities for ages 7 through high school seniors.

TACT WorkShops are for ages 7-10, offering classes in music, dance and drama in five week cycles, three days per week, at the Community Arts Center in downtown Wilmington. Mondays from 5-7PM is theater dance with Kendra Goehring-Garrett; Wednesdays from 5-7PM is drama with Suzanne Ralke-Smith; Saturdays from 10AM-noon is music with Linda Carlisle-Markas.

We offer three WorkShops annually, in the fall, winter and spring. Each five week session concludes with a showcase presentation highlighting the work that has been done in all of the classes.

The emphasis of the WorkShops is on the process rather than the result ‒ meaningful training is a journey, not a destination.

The WorkShops are offered free of charge and applications are available on this Web site.

TACT presents three fully realized productions annually with auditions open to performers ages 11 through high school seniors. An annual summer production incorporates both TACT and TACT WorkShop performers of all ages. Audition notices are posted on this Web site as well as in such local papers as encore Magazine and the Wilmington Star-News. There are occasional TACT productions that call for younger performers in which case we dip into the WorkShop talent pool to fill those roles.

A Year with Frog and Toad

Based on the famous “Frog and Toad” books by Arnold Lobel, the story follows charming Frog (10-year-old Matthew Sweyer) and grumpy Toad (10-year-old Thomas Winner) as they have adventures with their animal friends and sing catchy, jazzy, vaudeville-inspired songs.

President's Greetings

Welcome to our 221st Year!   This will be a year of “musical chairs”!  Our beloved jewel, Thalian Hall will be closed for modifications and renovations to include new seating.

Thus, the Thalian Association’s main stage performances will be taking place at the 2nd Street Stage, at the Hannah Block USO Historic Building and Kenan Auditorium.

A Letter of Thanks

Thank you all for making our 2007/08 season one of our most successful ever. We were honored as Wilmington’s Best Theater Company by the readers of encore Magazine for the fourth consecutive year, for which we are deeply grateful.

I’m extremely proud of what we continue to accomplish and wildly enthused about our 2009/10 season of productions.
