WILMINGTON, NC- Thalian Association Community Theatre will hold auditions for a special theatrical event, The Caine Munity Court Martial, on Monday May 21 and Tuesday May 22 at 7pm. Auditions will be held at the Community Arts Center, 120 S. 2nd Street in downtown Wilmington. The production, directed by Jordan Wolfe, runs June 29 through July 15 on the fantail of the Battleship NORTH CAROLINA.

Audition participants need to be prepared to read from a provided script.

Available Roles:

  1. STEPHEN MARYK – experienced lieutenant
    LT. BARNEY GREENWALD – a lanky lieutenant, stern and abstracted.
    LT. COM. JOHN CHALLEE – a well set up lieutenant.
    CAPTAIN BLAKELY – a tall, white-haired captain.
    LT. COM. PHILIP FRANCIS QUEEG – the picture of a correct naval officer. He is a short man in his thirties, with scanty hair.
    LT. THOMAS KEEFER – a clever, plotting officer.
    SIGNALMAN THIRD CHLASS JUNIUS URBAN – a little sailor in blues.
    LT. (JR. GRADE) WILLIS SEWARD KEITH – a young sailor
    CAPT. RANDOLPH SOUTHARD – a dapper, lean officer. Close-cropped head; hard-bitten face.
    DR. FORREST LUNDEEN – intelligent man in his fifties; .
    DR. BIRD – a young lieutenant of the intellectual and ascetic type.


The Pulitzer Prize-winning novel about a court martial has been adapted by the author into suspenseful evening of theatre. A young lieutenant is relieved his captain of command in the midst of a typhoon on the grounds that the captain, Queeg is a psychopath in crisis and commanded the ship and its crew to destruction. Naval tradition is against him, but testimony eventually reveals a devastating picture of Queeg’s mental disintegration.
