WILMINGTON, NC –Thalian Association Community Theatre is proud to announce that the 2018 Donn Ansell Memorial Scholarship will be $1000 thanks to the generosity of the Donn Ansell family and friends. The scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving high school senior who plans to pursue a degree in theatre or film. The Donn Ansell family established the scholarship to honor Donn’s many achievements in local theatre, radio and television, his service to the Wilmington community and his proud history with Thalian Association Community Theatre as its first Managing Director.
Thalian Association Community Theatre also offers a $500 scholarship in honor of Pat Hingle, the renowned actor of stage and screen who once called Wilmington home and performed in Thalian plays. Mr. Hingle is best known to a generation of movie fans as Commissioner James Gordon in the first four “Batman” films.
Applicants for both scholarships must have been active with Thalian Association Community Theatre as performers, designers, technicians or in a backstage capacity with plans to major in theatre or film.
Scholarship applications are available online now to rising seniors who will graduate from high school in 2018. The deadline for applications is March 1, 2018. Scholarship winners will be announced in June at the Thalian Association Community Theatre Annual Meeting at the Hannah Block Historic USO/Community Arts Center, and the presentation ceremony will be during the Thalian Awards at Ironclad Brewery on July 22, 2018.
