WILMINGTON, NC- Thalian Association Community Theatre will hold auditions for the romantic comedy play, The Philadelphia Story, December 12 at 6 pm. Auditions will be held at the Community Arts Center, 120 S. 2nd Street in downtown Wilmington. The production, directed by Kendra Goehring, February 10 through February 19 at Historic Thalian Hall. Tracy Lord, an overly dramatic socialite, finds her wedding plans thrown into disarray by the arrival of her ex-husband and a tabloid magazine journalist. The play premiered on Broadway in 1939 at the Shubert Theatre. A popular film adaptation starring Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn and James Stewart was released in 1940. She sees that human vulnerability is part of life, and that even she is not as impenetrable and invulnerable as she once imagined. Macauley “Mike” Connor Born and raised in South Bend, Indiana, Mike Connor is a hard-working, cynical, and skeptical short story writer, who writes for the tabloids to pay his bills. He rolls his eyes at his commission to cover Tracy Lord’s wedding, dismissing the topic as superficial and the family as rich snobs. After spending some time with the Lord family, however, Mike becomes charmed by their graciousness and specifically by the intelligent Tracy. As he falls in love with Tracy, his reverse-snobbery dissipates and he comes to appreciate the finer things. He is at once charming and snarky, and fancies himself a real artist in a world full of charlatans and dilettantes. C.K. Dexter Haven Handsome and oh-so-casually witty, C.K. Dexter Haven is also a member of the upper class, but his taste for drink drove a wedge between him and Tracy. Sydney Smith Martin is a first time instructor for TACT academy but a professional in all things theatre and performing arts! She trained at The Institute of American Musical Theatre in NYC and has an Associates Degree in Visual Arts. She has been in numerous local Wilmington productions and has been an avid entertainer since the age of 3. Sydney is a firm believer, and living proof, that a good theatre community can help a person shine and be their whole true self from head to toe, inside and out! She is incredibly grateful and excited to have the opportunity to work with young professionals from all walks of life and help them fall further in love with all things performing!

This is a class for beginner “Singers Who Tap” interested in combining Broadway-style tap combinations & choreography with their voices. Each class will include a warm-up, floor progressions & combinations focusing on technique & musicality, giving students an opportunity to strengthen the quality of their tap sounds & performance level. Students should wear comfortable active attire & tap shoes. Tap shoes can be any color and style.

Meghan McDonald is a recent UNCW graduate with degrees in Theatre Performance and Communication Studies. Originally from Cumberland, Rhode Island, she now is an active member of the Wilmington theatre and film communities as an actor. You may recognize her from the recent productions Elf: The Musical, The Wedding Singer, and Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “Cinderella”. When not in rehearsals, she enjoys cooking, watching movies, and hanging with her cat!

This is TACT’S first ROOKIE SHOW, meaning these auditions are open only to those performers that are NEW to Thalian Association. The two devise an elaborate revenge/power game; through their style and cunning, the stakes continue to rise, leading to the play’s inexorable, heart-stopping finish. He tries to maintain the appearance of youth, through hair dye, and virility, through references to a mistress, but he is unable to truly fool Milo. Andrew is obsessed with games and toys. MILO TINDLE (Any gender, 30’s) also plays the roles for characters Inspector Doppler, Police Constable Higgs, and Detective Sergeant Tarrant. They come into Andrew Wyke’s life because they are having an affair with Wyke’s wife, Marguerite. At about thirty-five years old, Milo, who is younger than Wyke, is carried away by the romance of the affair. They and Marguerite want to marry and live their life in idyllic happiness in his rooms above their travel agency.

Nichole Murrell was born and raised in New Bern, NC. She has lived in Wilmington for over 18 years where she has grown and come to call her home. She is a wife and a mother of 3 beautiful girls. She is a graduate of Strayer University where she received her Bachelors degree in Business Management. Her career has branched off through multiple major communication companies such as Sprint and Verizon Wireless. She decided to make a career changed years back to match the needs of her family and her heart. Nichole has always loved working with the youth. From small babysitting jobs as a teenager to holding leadership roles in non-profit dance, singing or outreach organizations. This path led her to her current role in education. She has been an educator for 7 years now with New Hanover County Schools. Nichole loves working with children and especially those with exceptional needs. She finds comfort in providing guidance and leadership to young individuals to ensure they have a positive impact to this world as they grow. Nichole leads youth groups and organizations with her church and also the community. Her desire is to be an example for others to see how hard work, determination and positive energy can make a difference in so many ways. She has a small business called Cole’s Creations where her many gifts are used and enjoyed. In addition to her lead career, she has a cosmetology license and bank teller certification. Outside of spending time with her family, she enjoys singing, acting, baking and crafting. She has been apart of the Thalian Board for 2 years now and prays to be an impact for the up building of the organization.

Logan Hayes was born and raised in Wilmington, NC and cannot seem to escape the beach life. He absolutely loves to read, dance, and late-night drives singing tons of Broadway hits. Logan has performed in Musical Theatre since the age of 8 and his love for the art has only grown. He has an extensive background of dance training beginning at the age of 4. He has trained in jazz, hip-hop, tap, clogging and musical theatre dance. He has worked with children in performing arts since 2011 and would not change it for the world. Logan has performed many times with Thalian Association and is looking forward to an amazing year with the Youth Academy.

Sarah Cruickshank is thrilled to be teaching at TACT Academy this fall! Sarah fell in love with the performing arts at a young age when she began acting at her local community theatre. She has choreographed and assistant-directed several children’s shows throughout her career (favorite credits include: WINNIE THE POOH, CAT IN THE HAT, and CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY) and has taught beginner tap and ballet. Sarah holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Communication and a minor in Theatre Arts. She has also completed research on women in theatre and drama therapy with the elderly and adults with disabilities. She looks forward to teaching the next generation of Wilmingtonian actors!

Courtney Harding grew up participating in Thalian Association Youth Theatre. She graduated with honors from UNC Charlotte in Theatre Education and a minor in dance. She now teaches theatre at New Hanover High School by day and performs in local theatre by night! Courtney also directs Boss Camp productions every summer at Creative Arts Camp.
