Closed Auditions

Thalian Association Community Theatre will hold auditions for Beehive: The 60’s Musical Tuesday June 1 at 6 pm.  Auditions will be held at the Community Arts Center, 120 S. 2nd Street in downtown Wilmington. Beehive will be directed by Cathy Street. The production will run for three live performances at Historic Thalian Hall July 16-18.

Audition participants need to prepare 30 seconds of a 60’s era song and bring sheet music. An accompanist will be provided.  Those wishing to audition may call 910-251-1788 to set up an audition time. Callbacks will be June 2 if needed. All roles are available. TACT’s artistic director encourages performers with all levels of experience to audition. All are welcome. Please do not enter the building until it is your time to audition.

Synopsis:

“Beehive: The ‘60s Musical” matches big voices with big hairdos. From Aretha Franklin to Janis Joplin, Beehive is a wailing musical tribute to the ladies who unmistakably left their mark on ‘60s music. Rock out with “Respect,” “Natural Woman,” “My Boyfriend’s Back,” “One Fine Day,” “Downtown” and more!

Character Descriptions:

All: TACT is looking for singer/dancers of diverse ethnicities, especially Black women. Strong vocalists and strong movers are needed for a high energy production.  Some of the women will be used as backup singer/dancers for Aretha Franklin and Tina Turner. Many well-known singers are portrayed (and sometimes parodied) within the production; not looking for imitations but capturing the essence of certain performers.

Woman One: songs include ‘One Fine Day’, ‘I’m Sorry’ (Brenda Lee), ‘Remember (Walking in the Sand)’ ‘Downtown’ (Petula Clark.)

Woman Two: songs include ‘My Boyfriend’s Back’, ‘The Beat Goes On’, ‘I Dream About Frankie’ (Annette Funicello.)

Woman Three: songs include ‘I Can Never Go Home Again’, ‘It’s My Party’ and ‘You Don’t Own Me’ (Lesley Gore), “Do Right Woman’, ‘You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me’ (Dusty Springfield.)

Woman Four: songs include ‘Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow’ ‘Where The Boys Are’ (Connie Francis), ‘Piece of My Heart’ and ‘Me and Bobby McGee’ (Janis Joplin.)

Woman Five: songs include ‘I Sold My Heart to the Junkman’, ‘RESPECT‘ and “Natural Woman’ (Aretha Franklin.)

Woman Six: songs include ‘Sweet Talkin’ Guy’, ‘Where Did Our Love Go’ and ‘Come See About Me’ (Diana Ross), ‘Proud Mary’ (Tina Turner); Other artists portrayed within the show: Lulu (‘To Sir, With Love’) and Janis Ian (“Society’s Child”.)
