In 2007, the North Carolina legislature named the Thalian Association Community Threatre the Offical Community Theater of North Carolina. In an official ceremony held in Wilmington, Secretary of State Elaine Marshall emphasized that our organization’s prestigeous title was not a distinction given lightly.
“This is truly unique,” Marshall said. “But what this really does is honor a tradition of inspiring people, helping children, healing a community, all the things that the performing arts and an association to support that can mean.”

THALIAN ASSOCIATION COMMUNITY THEATRE ANNOUNCES RECIPIENTS OF THE 2015 DONN ANSELL AND PAT HINGLE SCHOLARSHIPS
WILMINGTON, NC – Thalian Association Community Theatre, North Carolina’s oldest community theatre, is proud to announce that Zachary Hutchinson is the recipient of the $2600 Donn Ansell Scholarship and Helena Boldizar will receive the $500 Pat Hingle Scholarship. The two scholarships are administered annually by Thalian Association Community Theatre and awarded to a deserving high school senior who has proven to be a serious student of the theatre with plans to further their theatrical education following graduation. THE THALIAN ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES NEW NAME & UNVEILS REDESIGNED LOGO
WILMINGTON, NC – The Thalian Association, North Carolina’s oldest community theatre, today announced a new name complete with an updated logo design that will more accurately represent the 227 year old association’s theatre arts programs and community contributions. The association and its 35 year old youth theatre program will now share the name Thalian Association Community Theatre beginning with the 2015-2016 season of productions. The new logo was designed pro bono by Bon’s Eye Marketing, a long time supporter of Thalian Association Community Theatre.
“The public has been aware of our Children’s Theatrical productions, as well as our productions at both Thalian Hall and the Red Barn Studio. However, they may not be aware that all of these are under the umbrella of the Thalian Association,” said Jerry Flake, President of the Thalian Association Community Theatre Board of Directors. “The new name and logo now better identifies to the public that we are community theatre, a dedicated group of hundreds of people volunteering thousands of hours on stage and behind the scenes to bring outstanding theatrical experiences to the Cape Fear region.”
In addition to the name change the community theatre group is launching two membership options that will include the Red Barn Studio productions and the youth theatre productions on the 2nd Street Stage in the HBHUSO/Community Arts Center. Also new this season, a reduced price $15.00 ticket for youth 17 & under will be available for all main stage Thalian Hall productions. In 2013 ticket prices for all Thursday night performances at Thalian Hall, including opening nights, were reduced to $15.00, representing a 50% discount from the $30 ticket price for Friday through Sunday performances.
“Our goal with the new membership options and reduced price youth ticket is to make live theatre more accessible to area residents and encourage entire families to attend our productions,” said Susan Habas, Executive Director of the Thalian Association Community Theatre. “We hope to provide something for everyone with our thirteen productions on three area stages.”
The 2015-2016 Thalian Association Community Theater season will kick off at the Red Barn Studio this summer with Tony Award winner Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill, Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and Tom Stoppard’s The Real Thing. The Main Stage Thalian Hall productions will open in September with the Wilmington premiere of The Addams Family, followed by the musical extravaganza Mame, the American classic Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman, the Wilmington premiere of Tony Award winning Green Day’s American Idiot and the delightful comedy Noises Off. The Youth Theatre program will also offer five productions on the 2nd Street Stage in the Hannah Block Historic USO building: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Babes in Toyland, our third annual collaboration of adult and youth performers It Takes Two, titled T23, Disney’s 101 Dalmations Kids! and The Secret Garden: Spring Edition. A Season for Everyone
The Thalian Association, North Carolina’s Official Community Theatre, is proud to announce their 2015-2016 season. Mirroring new social media trends, but staying true to our roots, we present a season that is relatable to the past, yet looks ahead to the future. This season spans time, space and even certain realities, across three different performance venues. As a community theatre, we hope to create a season for everyone.
Our second annual summer season at The Red Barn Studio will begin with Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill (June 11-28). As the temperatures rise outside in July (9-26), things get hot on stage with Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Finishing off the season will be Tom Stoppard’s The Real Thing from August 6-23. These productions will run at The Red Barn Studio, 1122 S. 3rd Street, in downtown Wilmington, Thursdays-Saturdays at 7:30PM with Sunday matinees at 3PM. The Thalian Association Children’s Theatre season brightens the stage with the vibrant musical Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat by Andrew Lloyd Webber (October 9-18). Ring in the holiday season with Babes in Toyland from December 3-6. Our third annual It Takes Two, titled T23, is a unique collaboration that bridges the gap between youth performers and adult actors in the Wilmington Community. These talented performers take the stage January 22-24. Those furry, spotted friends jump on to the stage with Disney’s 101 Dalmations Kids! (February 26-March 6). As spring approaches, The Secret Garden: Spring Edition blooms onstage April 22-May 1. Productions will run at the Hannah Block Historic USO/Community Arts Center in downtown Wilmington, Thursdays-Saturdays at 7PM with Sunday matinees at 3PM.
